End of paying for TV Licence - and more!

23 million French residents will no longer have to pay for a TV licence this year, and those who pay monthly in advance will receive a reimbursement.
That's 138€ better off in our pockets, thank you French Government!
Also, I saw an article yesterday that stated Mr Macron has been putting the pressure on supermarkets and energy suppliers to keep their costs down for the public, or risk supertaxes to take away some of their huge profits! Carrefour have already announced over 100 everyday items being price-frozen, at least until the end of the year. I believe LeClerc have also stated the same, and I'm sure the rest will follow, for fear of being branded unhelpful. The fuel energy giants will lower the fuel costs marginally until next year. So, for all the critiscism that Macron gets - I feel he and his team are actually working quite hard for the people of his country (unlike some other countries we could mention!)

I have to say here we have low inflation but obviously global energy costs - I have noticed the Swiss petrol retailers are nothing short of atrocious.
Diesel is down just CHF 0.11 from the peak of CHF 2.45 (€2.55) to CHF 2.34 (€2.43) - last time in France I was paying about €1.90 for premium diesel.
So let's hope we see some supertaxes here.
edit - and the TV licence here is CHF365 (€380) - and you pay even if you don't have a TV but have anything capable of receiving - like a mobile phone.

Quite appropriate?

@Quiksilver Love it ! It reminds me of a joke I saw a few days ago which I'll post in the Joke section !
Whatever the government gives us, it will be taken away somewhere else, of that you can be sure ! I'm not a cynic, but they need to get the money from somewhere ...
As far as supermarkets not upping their prices on certain goods, I can also be sure it won't be the things I want to buy

True enough. lIke all the so-called special discounts on stuff you see in the promos that fill the letterbox. Always discounts on the most expensive name brand items that the less well off don't buy anyway, or discounting only if you buy several (that you most likely don't need).
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

But if he is open and honest up front then it is good - so long as we don't see silly excesses in certain quarters.

Pension funds would be a lot smaller if they didn't invest in high-yield companies. Governments make similar investments and receive those dividends too....
As for Martinez and Roussel, the former is France's Jack Dash (remember him?) and the latter is communist. And we all know how well the communist experiment went.
