20 and 50 paper currency notes.

I read on another forum that 20s and 50s are to no longer be legal tender very shortly. They poster didn't say if this was UK or French money. Has anyone heard anything about this?

I thought only the €500 was being / had been discontinued.

Here we have the 1000 chuff note - every smuggler's favourite currency (I am told). I paid my rent with one, once.

They might be talking about this;

30 September 2022 will be the last day you can use Bank of England paper £20 and £50 notes. After 30 September 2022, these paper notes will no longer be legal tender, so we encourage people to spend them or deposit them at their bank ahead of this date.

It's 2022 and it's the old paper money not the non vegan plastic stuff.

I'll have to check my little 'UK wallet' to clear out any in there and send them in the post to my UK bank. It was always useful in the past when I used to make regular trips and saved heading before anything else to Sainsbury's cashpoint in Newhaven on arrival.

Once, when delivering a dog at a rdv in Tesco's in Folkestone I nipped inside the store to buy a couple of items before catching the next train back, only to find that the tenner I proffered was no longer legal.

No need to go anymore so if the occasion does happen, I'll just have to find the hole in the wall.
