Re: Value for money
Value for money for me was the microwave I bought on Ebay for Β£0.99 15 years ago which is still going strong, although the timer long since ceased to work. No matter, we are just used to watching a glass of coffee start to bubble or watch the kitchen clock second hand when necessary.
I felt so guilty when I collected it from the very nice lady in Liverpool that I refused the penny change when I gave her a quid.
I did give her a very nice bottle of Bordeaux as well, seeing as she had held it for 3 months till we went over for my son's wedding.

Re: Value for money
Today a consumer needs to know his/her place in "the system". Value for money is no longer part of the game so forget it as a concept. Goods that outlive the waranty period knock the profit out of "the system".
You must learn to lust after the latest thing, whether it adds anything useful to your life or not. If it is the latest fashion, colour, model, or fad then do your utmost to be at the head of the queue waiting for the shop to open so you can enjoy consumer gratification. You are not good to the system unless you keep playing the game, and that is why they are pushing credit cards at you from an ever younger age.

On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.
