Delays in medical appointments

#11 Post by Blaze »

Having commented that there was a 4 month wait for a non-urgent echographie, I was warned by my doc that there could be a delay to see a kiné.
There happens to be a very good practice in our village and we have both used it in the past. I called in on Tuesday and a RDV was made for 2 days later (today). No problem booking 2 more seances for next week. It may be because we're local or because we know the owner of the practice ... but theirs not to reason why ...

Delays in medical appointments

We actually have quite a few kinés here, but my first prescription for help with my essentiaal tremor produced no results until I had a stroke. No trouble since I broke my leg, except that this week they're reducing the frequency from 2 séances/semaine to 1. Postcode lottery? No. I think it's age lottery, and I sort of understand that. Still, I told both my nurse and kiné last week that it's not much more than 18 months ago that I was mowing and digging in the garden and not being a burden on anyone.

That's one of the depressing things about getting older, these things can suddenly happen and you go from being sprightly to ... less sprightly.

Delays in medical appointments

Well it's more serious round here than I realised. 1 month minimum wait for a scanner (6 months for the preferable cabinet imagerie in the same town) and the only way to get one quicker is to declare an emergency. But...can't just turn up to urgences now. Have to be referred by GP.
Three month wait for a consultation with a specialist/chirurgien.
The only area that is still quick and efficient is the labo...same day appointment or libre access and results the same day.
Where/when did it all go so badly wrong?

I must be very lucky!
I woke up Wednesday morning with the typical pain of sciatica
My doctor (Romanian) saw me the next day early in the afternoon and even apologized for this long delay (29 hours)
The same day, my nurse, called at 3:30 p.m., came to give me my first injection at 6 p.m.: total delay 33 hours between my first call and my first care!
I also have a principle of saying it when I am happy (uh, about health professionals, not about sciatica :x )
Demain est le premier des jours qu'il nous reste à vivre: profitons-en ! :D

It's still working well here. If needing a Doctor's RDV then the secretary checks if it's a prescription renewal or a problem. The former maybe a week's wait, the latter a day or two that's all. No problem either at either Brive or Tulle hospitals when check ups have been necessary.
