Amusing Translations
I think it's sometimes done on purpose because they know it makes Brits smile. Small mistakes are part of the charm.
Where we used to live, we had friends who ran a small hotel and restaurant. One of the waiters, Fabien, spoke good English and we were always happy for him to practise on us (I used to translate the menus for them). One phrase which always made us smile was "For dessert, I propose to you ...." He told us that at "waiter's school" it was one of the recommended expressions guaranteed raise a smile among Brits. The number of Brits who would try to correct him always made him smile ! He had great difficulty pronouncing the word "pineapple"
We never correct mistakes unless asked. We just enjoy the Google translate menus !
