Sarkozy sentenced to one year for illegal campaign financing

#1 Post by Char »

He's not going to prison though, he's allowed to serve his sentence at home.

I expect so - he's appealing the other convictions.

It's not worth the cost to imprison him - he's not a danger to the public. His reputation is tarnished and one hopes his political ambitions have gone. He'll still be getting a handsome former Pres salary for life though ....

Blaze it is a pity that that sort of foresight doesn't operate within the penal system in the UK, people who are of no danger to the general public mainly blue collar fraudsters, should be penalized financially, and none of this old crap that oh that's in the wife's name. Take as much as they have, compensate their victims if possible and let them go back to square one. Cut the prison population in one swoop, and any shortage with PO's.

I have no time for a justice system so deeply politicized and encouraged by extreme-left figures. Hollande wasted the first 18 months of his term pursuing Sarkozy instead of being head of state. Remember the Mur des Cons? Sarkozy was one of the targets of that 'wall of assholes' put up by the Syndicat de la Magistrature (judges' union), as were parents of murder victims who'd expressed their views of the French judiciary.

Castex may say that the judiciary is independent but it sure isn't. At least he had the grace to express his admiration and amity for NS, as no doubt the million or so auto-entrepreneurs would do if they remembered that it was NS who introduced the system enabling anyone to start a small business without being crushed by taxes and national insurance on Day 1.
