An interesting website that shows the distribution of different sources of electricity production in France over time:

By moving the cursor, we see that dams are used to regulate production despite the contribution of solar power, which cannot be controlled.
It is not worthwhile to use nuclear reactors to regulate production because their fuel consumption decreases little if the power is reduced:
