Van man with my parcel

#1 Post by Polarengineer »

He is a regular van man often delivering our parcels, nice bloke. Today he turns up with a book-size parcel in his hand and a bloody computer gadget in the other. He wants-needs a code to put in his computer, says we get it via SMS or email from Chronopost. “Didn’t get one” I say, I look again,—nope, nix. He says it is obligatory. He says I can pick it up in town at the post office, but not until Tuesday. I ask why he can’t drop it off in town today, as I might need to go there later for other stuff.
Nope. Not his service area, that’s done by someone else.
Off he walks with my parcel.

Mrs PE just returned from a 1 hour trip to send back another parcel from Amazon, easy, just let them scan the QRcode and they will pack it in and send it free of charge. Bloody computer could not connect to make the scan, so she returns home with the parcel.

It’s not the 13th, so whats going on?

We get these codes sometimes and we're always ready with them. Never been asked for it even when the driver is new to us.

More technology to make our lives more complicated.
I have never been asked for a code but I suppose I will have to start paying attention. I regularly get parcels and I regularly get emails from the Post Office telling me that parcel number so-and-so is on its way or has passed through customs. Since I have no idea which parcel it refers to I just delete it and wait. The infomation never says who sent the parcel, where it is from, or what the item is. One more reason to "leave the building".
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

As per my OP. It has happened again. No sign from Chronopost about a code. Had to send the poor lad packing. The last time (the OP) we were promised a code in the next 24 hours to unlock the Carrefour locker where the parcel had ended up. Next we get an email from Chronopost that it has been returned to the sender. Of course there is no way on Amazon to say it is returned by others, however they have returned the cost. I hope they can connect that with the article returned by others without their standard return form from me or they may dock the cost back again. With all these emails from Chronopost about how stuff has not been able to be delivered, how come they cannot sent an email with the code?

Chronopost are a disaster. I wince when their name appears as the carrier as they have never successfully delivered anything to me. I immediately redirect to our local Super U, they seem to be able to find that. Never had a problem with missing sms/mails, though.

No problems with Chronopost here. They hand everything over to La Poste to deliver.

GLS on the other hand invariably deliver to the pointe relais - just a 22km round trip

Always prefer Chronopost to the others. Here, like with exile, they will give it to our excellent post lady unless too/big heavy then it comes in a van.

I got our postlady into trouble a year or so ago: I had an email saying my packet (new phone) had been delivered, but when I got home it wasn't there. Hunted around t'internet for the local number and rang them - turns out any small packet which gets on to 'our' round is flagged up as delivered, as for so much or her round there is no signal for her zap.

I had a smartphone via Amazon, I was lucky enough to be in the garden as she whacked the jiffy bag in the post box. By the time I had got the key she had departed, opened the box, empty jiffy bag, chased her down the road, where the look of dismay and disbelief were oscar winning. She then marked it down as refused, it was blatantly obvious the jiffy was empty, makes you wonder.
