Weather ... again

#811 Post by exile »

Very strange weather today; the strong winds from this morning suddenly stopped to give a sunny and windless period of an hour. Then the wind and rain returned for a couple of hours, to again disappear and give windless sunshine. As of now it is still sunny but once again strong winds are in force.

Of themselves, strong winds are not unusual here, given our exposed position, but the stop-start repeating is not usual.

The eye of a storm is usually quiet, clear and sunny and as it passes, the winds continue.

Very true @Polarengineer , but we are about 700km south of the eye.

Something else that has never happened before: We have a large external analogue wall clock, at some stage, it has blown off the wall. It is big (about 45cm across) and quite heavy. I only noticed this morning when I peered out of the window to see if I could grab a further hour in my pit.

The clock seems to be working still, so I will just set it for winter time.

Here is a brilliant photo taken by a local photographer of fishing boats inside one of the bassins in Saint Malo during the tempête

It's still wet and windy here though yesterday afternoon it was dry ! The water in the basins in the port is calm but yesterday a child managed to fall in the water between a pontoon and one of the giant trimarans (Ultimes)
My sister lives right on the northern tip of Lewis and they had quite a tempête yesterday with some damage to their roof. When I commented that there were no trees to provide any wind break/protection, she said it was preferable to flying debris and trees falling on the house !!
