@ Char: the ancient art of soldering? I'm still happy with my Wellers, but Mr Wirecutter in NY mentions new names, hitherto unknown to me.

Yep, plumbing - the wonderful smell of flux and scorched horse hair. Mmmm

That's an interesting set of electrical equipment you have there RobertArthur and a very sturdy looking soldering iron. :D

And then of course there will be several kilometres of waste plastic film to dispose of after the event.

Being grumpy is an inalienable right of the elderly. I revel in it to the full. ;)

Apparently it is recyclable, I think they will have to make a thing of recycling it or the poo will hit the fan

Youv'e all got it made these days not like it was way back???
When I did my 4 years plumbing/heating engineer apprentice.
Back then it was cutting either galvanised or black up to 2" pipes and threading them to screw them to fittings.
Ps. Never used horsehair in my life, hemp yes.

Hmmmmmmmmmm

There is a big difference between recyclable and recycled.

I have mountains of plastic film that is recyclable but our recycle system won't take it.
