It does not cost £150. A friend who did it on Tuesday got the result the next day. What has paying for the other tests got to do with anything? It saves five days of quarantine and for people making a short trip to the U.K. that can be money well spent.

He? They got it in less than 18 hours, that’s hardly 48 hours and a lot less than waiting for the eighth day test to release you on day 10.

This is starting to get a bit confusing.

So to recap, it can take up to 48 hrs to get the results which means some people will receive theirs sooner than 48 hours. ie. less than 18 hrs for some.

Having to pay the extra for the other tests that you don't actually have to take, may be important to some people because of the extra cost.

So while it might be better to pay up and not have to go into quarantine some people may prefer to stay at home because they can't afford the cost of the tests.

And - the rules will probably change again, and again .... soon.

Out of interest how much did your "friend" pay and from where?

Does one not also need a test before arrival and a test after 2 days? If so again how much did these cost your friend?

On return from France to the UK (at the moment) the rules are as follows:

PCR test in France 48 hours before departure.

PCR test in UK on day 2 & day 8 of quarrantine.

Optional test on day 5 for early release.

All have to be paid for & the PCR tests you have in the UK have to be booked before you travel back & you have to show the QR code of them upon entering the UK.

I am hoping to come to France in 2 weeks time & am trying to keep up to speed with all the rules.

It was about £50. I offered to pay it for her as I could tell that the thought of spending 10 days in quarantine before getting on with the things she’d gone back to do was depressing. In fact she had already come to the same decision. She did the test on day 5 and got the result at breakfast time in day 6 and was out of the door minutes later. The 48 hours comment was very negative. At the moment coming from France you pay you money and make your choice. She was contacted by telephone every day by track and trace and was visited twice.
The day 5 early release test was on top of the test in France before she left and the compulsory booking of day 2 and day 8 tests in the U.K. I think that the two compulsory tests were about £100 and were booked through Eurotunnel.
