Huge sighs of relief here too!
Over 43% polled for La Fasciste which I find incredibly sad and disturbing given the history of this village.

It's becoming apparent that people don't appear to learn from history.

More money is earned on conflict and war than co-operation and peace.

@Bayleaf - I accept that but what I can't accept is that many here who voted Le Pen will be the descendants of the families murdered by fascists in 1944.

62% Le Pen here and almost 38% Macron.
23.75% abstentions and 76% of those eligible voted.

It's beyond comprehension that anyone would think Le Pen is a better choice than Macron, especially those descendants as you mention. A bit like brekshit - people just wanted change, unaware of the dangers of such a radical change (turkeys voting for christmas springs to mind).

It's not incomprehensible at all IMHO. Her campaign was full of free money. No tax for under 30s. Reduced tax on fuels. Reduced income tax and so on and so on.

But no mention of who was going to pay for it - and those who are perhaps less enquiring will simply see the bag full of goodies.

Not everyone who voted for MLP is a fascist, racist or whatever other negative words you might chose.

Just easily led and looking for a free lunch. I had hoped that mindset was exclusive to UK but sadly I'm wrong.

Big relief here as Mrs W was saying back to the UK if she gets in. Not for me so we would have had a "discussion"and I would have opted for another EU country. I doubt she could have carried out many of her policies especially the stupidity of the no tax for under 30 year olds. There are no well paid in that age bracket then? None who have made a lot of money either via IT or other means and maybe single, live at home and pay little board? Madness when combined with all the other cuts, TVA, early retirement, lower taxes and then combined with a "war" against the EU, becoming a Russian satellite etc. etc.

A lot of our local Communes here in Correze voted for her, some quite strongly, although ours didn't. Previously in the first round they came out strongly for Melanchon so what was the logic of swinging to Le Pen in the second. Some lack of thought and logic there. I'm gobsmacked that she has some supporters from the UK living in France who wanted her to win. Why for heavens sake? No logic to that one.

People say left-wing and right-wing as if it were a line.

I prefer to think of it as a circle, like a clock face with Fascism at 11.30 and Communism at 12.30. With Macron around 6 o'clock and Melanchon at 2 o'clock, MLP is "closer".
