This morning we woke to a cool 14 degrees with clouds. What a change from the previous few days.

After nearly eight months of rain (from Oct. to May), here we are again. And, we spoke with our French neighbors back in February and March stating that by Summer we'd have water restrictions, yet again. Sadly, we were right.

It seems to me, they need to work on expanding the infrastructure to collect the rainfall. If they had, I doubt we'd be in this situation today.

I have a feeling if there was more effort to increase water supplies the farmers would be the main benefactors.

Today's so far the hottest day of the summer, which here has been relatively cool. It's in the high 20s and supposed to peak at 29°C. Fortunately there's a nice breeze from the east and with doors and shutters closed, the house is beautifully cool. It will be cooler tomorrow.

I've just looked at the temperatures in the Saumur area where we used to live and it reminded me of one of the reasons we moved to Brittany !!

It's certainly like walking into an oven, going from the cool lounge to the garden! Really thankful for the trees we planted years ago, to shade the cars (and reduce heat bouncing off the ground).

We even got the old inflatable rubber rings out of hibernation today, no holes thankfully, and had a mess about on the river bordering our fields. You know it's hot when the rubber rings come out!

Holidays at Home while daughter is here! 8-)

Looking to break with a storm on Tuesday, then cooler - yay!

Walking into an oven: the temperature (infrared measurement with my Fluke 61) of the wooden shutters of our kitchen door is now 45.8 C and rising. Facing to the south-west. Stairway to heaven or down to the Sahara? Inside, downstairs, from 22 to 27 C.

Update 4:25 pm : now 47 C and too hot to touch, the metal stairrailng: 52.2 C. Where are the oven gloves, dear?

Yes, it is oppressively hot. It truly does feel like you are walking into an oven just walking out the door into the SHADE. My laundry dried in half an hour today.

Thank goodness the forecast calls for cooler temps in the coming days. Maybe some rain on Tuesday.

Here beyond the end of the universe we peaked at 35 in the shade of our tall pines. The cold beer was warm before I got halfway through it.
