Watching BFM the fires in Gironde are awful and seem to be out of control. Horrible.

Agreed, ajm. The worst ever for France and so much destruction, a life's work for many.

Another pompier volontaire (aged 21) done for starting fires in Vendée after being reported by the SDIS itself for acting suspiciously. A 3 year suspended sentence and banned from serving as a pompier for life. A suspended sentence isn't enough - he needs to see just what destruction and heartache people like him cause by their reckless and stupid acts, all for the thrill of intervening.

Of course suspended sentences aren't enough. But until the French understand that a certain percentage of the population will always be mad or bad, nothing will change. Taubira and Holland didn't understand (or care), so people will continue to die/be maimed and their homes reduced to ashes.

The law serves little purpose these days. Seeing the penalties handed out to some offenders in UK lately.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Not a new idea this method was used in the seventies to destroy a large mill complex that was supposedly being restored, the builder thought he could torch it and claim on the insurance, it didnt work.

The SNSM (French RNLI) have been called upon for reinforcements in Bordeaux. OH and I have volunteered (provided we can put the dogs in kennels) as being retired, we would have no constraints. The work would probably entail looking after evacuees. Two vast hangars have been made available in the Bordeaux exhibition centre. One of the fears is that the fire reaches Saint-Médard-en-Jalles which is "Seveso", i.e. extremely high risk as it's where the Ariane rocket fuel is made.
