Fuel prices (petrol & diesel)

The general wholesale market price of the various fuels has been going up and down for quite some time.
Petrol station companies buy a batch of fuel at the price at the time so then (usually) need to sell it at a price to cover costs. I suspect a lot of the price variation is just due to that.
Big supermarket chains probably have more buying power so can get it at a slightly lower price. They probably also hedge (offset the risk) the price where possible.
Until the wholesale market stabilises the significant variations are likely to continue.

I wish that the supermarket comment were as simple as that in France @elsie .

All the prices mentioned so far pale before the price I paid yesterday at Auchan - 2.19! for Diesel. My wallet is still moaning in pain.

Our Insert as well as heating the main room also vents hot air to the two main bedrooms. Also by leaving doors open we can keep the whole house at an acceptable temperature. However it's maybe during the day that we may want a bit of quick and convenient heating if it's cold without lighting a fire. That's why an odd radiator would be useful So more wood (physical work costs me nothing) and less oil this year. The capital cost of upgrading everything is not worthwhile. Our hot water is also by electricity heated overnight on the cheap rate.

Here in Spain Diesel is around 1.68 and 95E5 1.80

What are you paying for 13kg gas bottles?

Here if bought from an official outlet (Cepsa or Repsol garages) the price is regulated and propane is €15.76

As the world market price of fuel is very similar for European countries, any difference in price is down to the different duties and taxes charged (and now, possible subsidies)

From April 1, 2022, fuel (diesel and petrol) will be reduced by 15 cents per litre for a period of four months. I suppose that's one of the benefits of an election year.

La question du fioul domestique ne semble pas encore tranchée. Jointe par actu.fr, la Fédération Française des Combustibles, Carburants & Chauffage (FF3C) nous a affirmé, à l’issue d’une réunion au ministère de la Transition écologie tenue ce mardi 15 mars 2022, que, « les pouvoirs publics ne confirment pas, ni n’infirment, que la mesure bénéficiera aux consommateurs de fioul domestique ».

My move to Spain instantly saved me ~€750 pa in fioul plus ~€200 pa in wood - plus of course electricity on top of that - so although I've never done the actual sums broadly speaking even with the price hikes I'm probably somewhere near status quo.
