No real surprises there, with Nupes and Ensemble neck and neck but it doesn't bode well for Macron.
An appalling 52%+ abstention .... the French would be kicking and screaming if their right to vote were to be removed, yet many cannot be bothered.

Let's hope the French wake up for the second round and realise that having Communists taking charge might not be such a good idea ......
Melenchon is convinced he will become PM, but as far as I am aware, Macron would not be obliged to appoint Melenchon as PM should the situation arise....

The big problem is that Macron will be continually blocked on everything he tries to do. The situation will be similar to that of the US where Biden is blocked by the Republicans in the House of Representatives. The problem of having a President as head of state, but who is political.

Yes, of course. But if there is a co-habitation, there will be stalemate all round. Melenchon will make it extremely difficult to get anything done and will create every stumbling block possible in anything that concerns Europe.

But from a French perspective, and trying to sort out the finances, ideas like reducing the pension age won't help the finances one bit.
