Supermoon tonight
Peeked out around 11pm and saw the moon seemingly 'hanging' low-down in the sky in the gap between 2 distant pine trees .. a glorious sight, it looked so very close by.

Looks like the sun through a thick cloud of smoke.

I looked out at 6am just before the moon disappeared from view and it seemed so close, so huge, hanging low in the sky .. not at all its usual silvery white colour but a light golden colour seemingly in a haze.
A wonderful sight.

The problem with mobile phone camera apps is the images are usually over-exposed, as they often try to expose for the whole frame area, with the result you get a white disc with no detail.
I tried with my phone last night and the exposures were usually about 1/17s f/1.8 ISO 8436 (which is about the same as 1/2s f/8 ISO 800)
Using my DSLR I took this (not very well-focussed) image, through hazy clouds soon after, with settings of 1/500s f/8 ISO 800 My phone has a separate night mode which compensates for movement and allows a longer exposure (1/3s f/1.8/ ISO 1299). I've no idea what the blue dot is - probably a reflection within the lens assembly? But is does show Saturn in the 1 o'clock direction. An extreme crop of a DSLR image from last night showing Saturn (1/250s f/8/ISO 200)

Sone lovely photos, thank you all. I saw the moon looking huge hanging up above the trees last night when I went to the bathroom.
