What is the easiest and quickest way of finding the name of the owner of a parcelle of land, please. My neighbour is not maintaining the next door plot so I am gonna try to get the sous- prefet to intervene. My village mayor says he does not have the power but I think he just cant be bothered.
Thanks in advance.

@ tagh, getting the description of such a parcelle of land is quite easy, finding the name of the owner is difficult.

Several thoughts.
Presumably you have had discussions on several occasions with the neighbour?
What has he said with regard to your request?
What leads you to believe it is not his land?
I ask these things as to start some action before all reasonable contacts have been made is often a recipe for disaster.

Finding the name of the owner of a plot of land
I have found the name of the owner of a plot of land, a farm, and a house with several land parcels, all in different towns, simply by asking at the Mairie.
There was no suggestion that this was beyond their powers, but for the house, the officer I spoke to said his records showed no owner's name for one of the parcels, only that it was owned jointly by more than one person.
The Notaire dealing with the property found the owners after I pressed him.
So maybe you can ask a local Notaire.

Finding the name of the owner of a plot of land
A few years ago we bought some land next to the house which was made up of several parcels. Before buying we went the the Mairie with a copy of the cadastre giving all the numbers of the adjoining plots and the secretary simply looked them up on the computer and gave us the names of the various owners. There's no way the Mairie doesn't know who owns what in their commune. Perhaps, as you say, they don't want to get involved. Have you tried asking directly for the information instead of asking for assistance in tackling the problem?
