Bank charges

Having my daily check on my CA bank account I have noticed a deduction of 42€ labelled "cotisation fourniture carte debit", I assume this is an annual payment, on top of the 5.60€ a month for providing me with a debit card, in order that I can pay for goods and services with my money that the bank is able to use.

CA. I can assume who you mean by those initials and can empathise. After some considerable struggle I managed to rid myself of that burden 15 years ago. Paying a lot less these days but still dislike having to pay to let someone else play with my money and limiting my access to it into the bargain.

After 2 years trying to close my brother in law's accounts with CMB in Loudeac, because he had returned to the UK, they finally succumbed to my continuous messaging and let him have his money. From talking to friends, it seems that CMB are not the only bank unwilling to let you go.

I switched from CA to Boursorama a few years ago. Still very happy with it. I've not had to pay any charges. See my comments in another discussion (on Online banks) viewtopic.php?p=16690#p16690

I read a post on FB the other day shared by a friend of mine about bank charges. This was in the U.K. not France but it came as a surprise.
A local bakery was asking local people to use cash more often. They backed this up by pointing out that their last year’s fee for accepting debit card payments was a couple of thousand pounds which as a small business they found hard to absorb. So far it all seemed to be making sense. They then added that that fee compared badly to the £400 in fees that they would have had for paying the same amount of cash into their bank. I’d never realised that any bank charged for paying money in.

Bank charges for a business account in the UK have always existed and have never been cheap .. according to our experience when we lived there and ran a small business.

Cards are free at Boursorama and Fortuneo. You don't have to close your CA account if you don't want to but you can pare it back to the minimum to save costs

When we had a business in the UK we used to pay in a large amount of cash every Tuesday and Friday at the local branch in a small market town. One week I couldn't get there on the Tuesday and went on the Wednesday, The cashier asked where I had been the day before as they plan for money coming in and nearly ran out of money to make payments out.
Typical Barclays and they were heavily charging us for the privelege of giving them money. I left Barclays for NW when we moved here and I'm glad I did.
