New rules for entry to the UK

Seems that US and EU travellers can enter the UK without quarantine - except from France.

You forgot stupidity (smiley face) they seem to have confused the prevalence of the Beta variance in mainland France which I believe is dropping and its overseas territories.

Remember the winter fuel allowance being taken away because the overseas territories were used as the average winter temperature over here.

It was my birthday last week and my son made a surprise visit from London. I was happy at the gesture but annoyed because he has to spend 10 days quarantine on return, though he is fully vaccinated in the UK, took a PCR test here 48 hours before his flight and had to have a 2 day and 8 day test booked before he could fly on Sunday. He can work from home, though he hates it.

My heart goes out to people who can't visit their family in the UK. I'm bemused at the latest regulations from the UK government.

It's really frustrating - my husband desperately wants to get over to see his mum, she's 94 now and just started talking about going into a home because things are getting too much for her. Our Son and his family moved house over there just as all this started and we haven't been able to visit them either, which means we haven't been able to see our grandson either and he's growing so quickly. They both work so they can't take a month off work to have a holiday over here and quarantine over there as they can't work from home.

We can't afford the tests let alone the expensive quarantine ............

But there you go, not a lot one can do about it really.

It really is a waiting game ..
Our daughter usually comes to visit us for 3 weeks at this time of year but can't manage (time-wise) the quarantine on her return to the UK so we won't be seeing her.

The next three-weekly review of the various UK traffic light rules is 9 August. It seems likely France will be changed to amber.

From everything I have read I would agree with elsie - am fairly sure France will be coming of fthe Amber Plus list by 5/6 August.

My SIL, the wit he is, said it was down to the Brexit mutation.

PS - we are very lucky, our daughter, hubby and two young sons live very close to us. I have had the pleasure of seeing my two grandsons growing up, even more so than my own two because I was always travelling. Now I'm retired and obviously have nothing better to do than babysit and be a taxi driver . They are very keen footballers and fans of the team that I happen to support.

I would have been devastated to miss out on that sort of bonding, it does brighten up your life.

There is no need to quarantine for 10 days in the U.K. You can take the quick release after 5 days.
