Well, we dunnit but harrdly in elegant style. Steward didn't really deserve his red card, but it's the result that counts

The sending off killed off the game, playing rugby with one fewer player especially at that level is a huge disadvantage. It was a case of the laws overriding common sense and the incident considered in context. A player who realised that he could not make a safe tackle turned to avoid making the tackle and after the officials viewed the incident at slow speed they ruled that he hadn’t moved fast enough. In the high pressure reality of the situation that wasn’t an option. He did obstruct the Ireland player and a yellow card would have removed him from the pitch for 10 minutes and would have given Ireland a huge short term advantage while allowing the game itself to be the contest that both the players and spectators deserved. Ireland deserved to win the game and the Grand Slam but I’m sure that the players would have preferred to have done it against a full strength England.

I agree with you 100%. Some of the decisions being made in rugby now are incomprehensible, and yes, a yellow would have been enough. Still, there's the World Cup to look forward to in a few months, and I'm sure England will continue their improvement. Provided they stop dragging the pensioners on to the field!

Irish player head-butts elbow of English full back and full back is given red card.
Bad decision.
