Where’s Doug when his analysis of this year’s 6 Nations is valued?

I’ve just watched Italy v France and what a different performance from France compared with their game v England.

I first watched the France team at Twickenham in the early 70s and my admiration and appreciation of French rugby began. Yes, it was v Italy today, but well done to the French - there were elements of magic not seen against England.

March 8th v Ireland will be interesting.

I thought for half of the first half, the French were there but not firing on all cylinders and the Italians were displayed their increasing confidence. Then the French decided to start playing; and playing as only they can.

There was a time when it was suggested that Italy should be replaced by another country with Georgia being favourite. Those critics have now gone silent.

I heard about an interview with Gareth Edwards who was asked if his team would beat the current Welsh team. He said yes but only just. The interviewer said why? He replied that 6 were dead and the rest are all over 70.

Ireland v France is bound to decide the championship. F rance have played the 2 weakest teams and notched up a mountain of points, while losing to the English. Ireland have won their 3 matches against the 'home' teams to win the Triple Crown.
Not much in it, imo. Ireland haven't been firing on all cylinders so far and look a tad jaded. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed nonetheless.
