I am pleased with the responses this has provoked - I admit I do not remember some of them.

But happy days! Called out of bed and given Weetabix or Shreddies with hot milk on; urgh! Into school, stopping at the corner shop to spend your 3d choosing from the hapney-a-pick tray and, first up, a lesson of modeling with plasticine or painting your hands. Out into the playground for a break of wrestling and subduing a lion or whatever else was on telly last night. Back inside for a double lesson of colouring innering then the lunch break and tearing round the playground trying to keep ahead of the herd of stampeding elephants or whatever was on telly last night. After lunch, PE, in your vest or musical interpretation ( ? be a tree, be a fish, etc). Finally, board games, a story and then home in time to watch children's TV and get ideas for the playground exploits tomorrow.

And did it do us any harm?

Certainly didn't do me any harm, but then I never saw a tv till I was in my teens I think, boarding school and late conversion by my parents I suspect.
