French tv

#1 Post by Doug »

Sitting here waiting for the final of the tour to start and wondering about the proportion of expats living here who watch tv on french channels.
Certainly for those who have difficulty with French it helps, along with french radio in that it tunes your ear into the language even if you miss a lot to start with.
Always watch the tour and other sport on F 2,3 when availiable, don't like Equipe sports channel much.
Love Arte and F5 for their docs. Invitation to voyage on atre is good then after this last week has been bee keeping through out the world which for me being an ex keeper Iv'e found fascinating.
Tend to have classic or France music radio on in the backround all day

I have a weakness for programmes I'd look down my nose at in the UK :D

For example, Tout le monde veut prendre sa place
La meilleure boulangerie
Bienvenue chez nous/à l'hotel
La carte aux trésors
Casseurs d'appart
Maison à vendre
Joker

Also
Des racines et des ailes
Les carnets de Julie
which are less low-brow!

Les Carnets de Julie and Echappes Belles are great TV and show life in France without any frills. We get some excellent current affairs from BFM TV even though it's owned by Murdoch 🤨

My problem with French tv is the programme guide on Fransat is not as informative as that on Freesat. Less easy to read and plan ahead.

I do watch from time to time, Arte, though there are nowhere near enough programmes with subs, and BFM, but as Radio 4 is on all day via the other dish, I don't watch as much as I used to.

My favourites in times past were 30 Million d'Amis and Louis le Brocante.

My only TV comes via TNT. I left the U.K. so long ago I’ve got not attachment to U.K. channels. I watch a mixture of French and VO programmes according to what’s on. I couldn’t imagine watching the TdF in a different language.
