France in Focus

I need to record french TNT TV channels - but my old UK (Bush) machine died a while back.

I ordered one of those TNT receivers which allows recording via a USB but I just can't get it to work - Amazon.fr has replaced it once. Consequently, I have decided to revert to a box which has both receiver and recorder within it; I realise that this is the expensive option. So, my question is, does anyone use such a box for recording TNT from a terrestrial aerial and, if so what make and model (Humax. Manhattan, etc) works for you?

I have used Humax for many years to record UK TV and still do so, perhaps, it might be best to avoid a similar machine in case the remote controls work on both machines in close proximity - unless somebody knows otherwise.

Any observations/advice welcome.

I have a Humax freesat for sale but don't know if it works with TNT.

Thanks hughnique. I have a Humax using the parabolic dish for UK telly so I need a terrestrial version (Freeview) and only then, if it will work with the TNT emissions.

I was just hoping somebody on here might be using one, or an alternative brand, who could confirm the TNT compatibility question.

I used a tnt box recording to a usb stick for years, no problem with the recording, the biggest problem was french tv schedules were a bit haphazard and often one program followed straight into the next, so it was impossible to stop and start the recording if you wanted to seperate the programs.

We gave up on it as most that we wanted to record is also on catchup via a smart tv or an app on a firestick. Which saves all the messing about.

Thanks widge. My daughter uses a Firestick but I've always thought it beyond my pay band to use one. I do have smart TVs but I sometimes find them too smart!

Being lazy in not starting another thread ........... although the title question still applies.

Looking through some media bumph, I saw reference to routers with an internal VPN. It's a pain in the posterior to set up a PC to watch UK catch-up TV so, I never do. A VPN router should make that simple. Has any body got any experience/knowledge of routers with a VPN?

Of course, my first question is, can you put any router on the end of any fiber suppliers line or are their routers the only ones that will work?

Have a look at “Shellfire” VPN. A tiny box that plugs into your router ethernet port and gives a wifi signal to your machine.(or an ethernet connection)

Thanks Polarengineer, I've had a look up to the point where it asks for personal info before allowing you to proceed. It looks a tad complicated to get the router and the box working together but it could well prove to be a solution.

I looked at the free version which is a downloaded app not a pliug box. It seriously slows loading anything compared to other VPNs I have used.
