This Is Going To Hurt
For those who have read the book, and even if you haven’t (I recommend you do) If you have access to UK television or iplayer the tv series started this week, written by Adam Kay himself,it certainly isn’t sugar coated but from what I have seen so far is excellent

I saw it. Love the actor playing the main character. It was certainly gritty and I wondered how accurate it all was?
I thought it was going to be more of a comedy, but I found myself getting really angry at the racist women, and I was in tears by the end, due to the fact that the relief Dr had worked for so long, and so much was expected of him.
Quite harrowing, but I'll be watching more. I liked that the BBC were certainly bringing to the fore certain aspects of life that many have trouble accepting.
So it's a big
from me!

If you read the book it is in keeping with the later half as it starts very funny and becomes darker .I would say it is pretty accurate although obviously there’s an audience in mind. It is only within the last couple of years we had a patient refused to be examined by a BAME doctor she was in tears

I caught a snippet of an ITV News clip, about the shortage of midwives in certain hospitals in the UK - and some horrific recounts from women who'd given birth in extreme circumstances. So some real life labour wards are currently even more chaotic than depicted in the programme.
As an aside, there's a series on Netflix called "New Amsterdam" - an hospital set in New York. Brilliant series, a real rollercoaster of emotions, and again shows up problems in society and "money before people". Thoroughly recommend it.

This Is Going To Hurt is set in 2006 ,so it makes you realise that, at least in some areas ,the problems aren’t new

I started to watch it but the screaming disturbed the cat and had to let her out and OH was shouting from the kitchen what on earth are you watching it sounds awful so I didn't get to see much of it. I haven't read the book. But I did find Ben Whishaw's naked body hilarious - is it supposed to be a comedy?
With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never be empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle, I will light your way into darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine.........The Corpse Bride

I’d classify as a dark comedy. According to the medical doctors I know - we’re surrounded by them where we live & one of my ex-bosses was a consultant, it’s horribly realistic - with the caveat that things are much worse now in the UK than in 2006 & that’s not just down to Covid.Sparkle wrote: ↑Fri Feb 11, 2022 11:14 am I started to watch it but the screaming disturbed the cat and had to let her out and OH was shouting from the kitchen what on earth are you watching it sounds awful so I didn't get to see much of it.
