Lovely views as you say, but a bit too much work for me - we're now 20 years into a 5 year renovation, I don't think it's ever going to end and this place is only small.

Well you beat me there Char.
We are 10 years into the renovation of this our fourth, last old farmhouse in 33 years, mainly because of myself ignoring the progress of old age and a long time hip problem.
Had four years of next to no go with both that and the ill health and then death of mami's pa, to say nothing of covid,
Now its impossible for me to do the second half and a problem finding a firm I can trust.
These days most of my time is in fighting the jungle, always saying we should have purchased a flat with a window box, but as always being gardeners it would kill us.

Yep there's always something to do.

We do all the work ourselves can't afford to hire artisans - we're onto the last stage now, which means I might have a proper kitchen in a couple of years. We've got the huge main beams to take down, clean off and check to see if they need replacing, most look sound which is good. I'm surprised at how much heavier they seem to get up and down than when we first started. Must be age related  because they're the same size as the last lot we took down and put back up again.

Yes Char, gravity works especialy with beams, our huge renovation back in the 90s the two hundred year old farm house had 35 by 35 cm beams six meters long, which had been used three times as the peg holes for fixing floor boards showed on the sides, no nails way back, only the combles still had floors fixed like that.
The other half has said good luck with the new kitchen, if like hereyou may have to wait several years for the cabinate doors.
Thinks thats a dig as I made all of the cabinates out of high grade mdf then painted with little green paint, a really supurb paint.
