Hi All,
Quick question relatng to trees and electric cables.
Who is responsible for any damage to cables caused by trees on my land, I'm guessing I already know the answer!!!

A neighbour had a a couple of large hazelnut trees that he was told to cut down or remove as they were too close to the electric cables - he sold the land and the new owner has had them dug out! So I think it's your responsibility to keep them in check.

It's your responsibility, unless force majeure intervenes (e.g. hurricane etc.) EDF can do the trimming/loppiung if you don't but they'll present you with the bill.

Edf cutting firm cut ours back a few years ago, no charge, they were doing the same all up the road.
Asked them how much to cut a huge ash tree down which was close to the house, the men did it on their cherry picker in 15 mins and didn't want to take any money, I gave the two of them cash in hand.
Probably they were just being very kind to this old codger.

EDF or their contractors have recently been through the fields here where there are pylons carrying cables.
They're cutting branches near the cables using a machine with a circular saw on a very long arm which I assume is non conducting
Dunno who's paying.

Had a letter from EDF to trim branches that were too close to the cables. These 4 wires went between two poles and nowhere else. Bare copper on glass insulators left over from the 1940s. I had the choice to cut the branches myself or they would for €75. I sent them a photo of both poles and asked what voltage would the shock be if I touched them. Daft buggers, never heard from them since.

Not straightforward then, the cables aren't on my land but the trees are on the edge of it by the grass verge. I'll do some more research, thanks all
