If you're in the market for a nice light, powerfull 18v drill with 2 batteries & charger, Aldi have one in their sale.
I bought one about 7 years ago & with it's case of drill & driver bits & it's been a go to tool since then.
Now again on sale today in their sale.
It's called a Duro pro @ about €25 & at that price I bought another. :D

On your recommendation I might be tempted but already have a pair of Bosch ones that are doing fine. One of them has been in use since the mid 80s.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Two incompatable words.
Cheap and good.
A bit like lifetime and guarantee.

@ Polar engineer, sometimes cheaper than expensive can be good, and sometimes more expensive than middle-class may result in not very good at all.

An update of this discussion about battery revival. I gave it a try with my bird Phoenix dream, the two more or less restored red Nicklel-cadmium 12 V batteries of my Makita drill. After several months they were exactly there where I started my efforts: after 30, 40 little screws (framing artwork) they slowed down to a halt.... I could have bought two new Chinese batteries or followed the more time consuming path: disassemble, remove old Nicd batteries, install new batteries etc. I have other priorities, other words for I'm getting lazy, and gave the set away.

Why? Change of partner, seduced by a special offer I bought a Parkside (Lidl) brushless drill, their black Performance series, including one 20 V /2A li battery and charger, for 59.99 euros. Enormous torque, left/right the same, and not heavy. A second battery went for an extra 20 euros, nothing compared to the price of original Makita , Bosch, Metabo, Milwaukee or Dewalt batteries.

For the little jobs I still prefer my old 9.6 V Makita, lightweight. The two together.

This new Parkside drill got very good reviews by independent consumer organisations, almost as good as the triple A machines.

Prices are falling: this afternoon the German computer magazine "PCWELT" mentioned in their newsletter new much lower prices, Amazon Germany in action for the DEWALT power drills.

To my surprise Amazon UK asks about 120 euros for "my" new Parkside machine. Regional Super-U differences and national Amazon differences.

@ Austin France, in 1970 I made a copy-cat power amplifier, the famous Quad 303 design plus the 33 pre-amp. Without the special select (RCA) power transistors (2N3055) as used by Quad in Huntingdon and pointed out by Peter Walker himself. Transient response of my DIY amp with capacitive loads was less than the original, more overshoot on top of a square wave on the scope screen.

Now back to price and quality: I bought electrolytic capacitors made by Spraque, their MIL spec series, long life, high temperature, low esr. Eye watering prices, but no regrets after 50 years: this amp is still in good condition. A tentative conclusion: also found hand in hand, high price and high quality.

Edit: the Lidl perceuse-visseuse sans fil price in France is somewhere in between. Also country specific Lidl price labels.

I have been looking at computer PSUs - a selling point of the higher-end models is "100% Japanese electrolytic capacitors" - I guess similar to your Spraque models.
