Tip of the day if you're splitting wood. Think of the anger you feel for putin, and suddenly you'll find you're an expert splitter, with a rush of extra strength! ;)

@exile
Thanks for that very interesting bit of information. We are not tied to anyone and have always used a local supplier but they only serve locally with a small tanker fleet so maybe any possible shortages puts them back of the queue at the refinery.

I just use several of those price comparison sites to find the cheapest offer. They sometimes give a selection of delivery dates where the price can vary a bit as well. I decided it was worth paying for the premium grade.
After about ten years I was having sludge problems blocking the filter in between annual services. I had to run the tank to nearly empty as the local firm who cleaned out the tank did it by passing the oil through a filter several times and charged partly by volume/time.

If the only storage capacity they have is their small tanker fleet, then the delay is down to demand and availability.

Unfortunately for you, this is the time of year when people need to fill their tanks. They topped up at the end of summer or in autumn to get them through the winter and now their tanks are getting low. So lots of people wanting deliveries. Add to that those who are now panicked into topping up due to the uncertainties caused by the war and the seemingly endless increase in price. I doubt there is a major shortage as such but stocks at the refinery or storage depots are historically low about this time of year.

As I recall, in France heating oil is 35 second - the same fraction as diesel - so there is "competition" for the same output at the refinery.

Well here I am again! I emailed my neighbours re the fioul and have now received a reply (in colour) which did make me laugh although I did use a rather rude phrase having read it & I'm getting rather fed up with my neighbour!

"Also coal, could I buy some in the supermarket ??? at least then we can have the open fire going. (I assume I cannot bring bags of coal)"

Can coal be used here? I have no idea but to bring it over from the UK :crazy:. I've never known anyone here using coal in fact I thought it might have been banned? OH said ask if they want nutty slack :lol: I said I'll tell them to light the BBQ :lol: Any comments very welcome :D

@Wilbro Oh yes, but they've always brought them with them and I absolutely refuse to order logs for them as they would have to be delivered onto the pavement in front of the house cos you can't get around the back and then we would be asked to trundle them through the house to a shed they have at the back. I shall recommend buying some logs you can get in string bags from the local brico or buy the bags of Woodstock compressed logs - haven't responded yet as I need to word my email carefully otherwise I shall be picking up yet another job before they arrive! I am seriously considering recommending 'Le Bon Voisins' for all their needs!

the previous sentence to the one above which I hadn't bothered to include.

"mind you can i just check we still have logs out there so that we can light the fire, also can i buy logs in france as i will need to ensure i have a stock, i know we cannot bring any with us."

Coal in France died out years ago along with the local supplies. From time to time I have occasionally seen briquettes in the DIY stores but not on a regular basis. The briquettes are compressed coal dust which says a lot about the remaining coal stock quality and they probably weigh a couple of kilos each. Sold in plastic wrapped lot of 5 briquettes. If you did not know what they were you would probably just walk by.

Found these but they are not exactly the same as I have seen
