Using too-thick loo paper can block up a fosse in no time. Don't use acid - a fosse reliezs on biotic action. Try yoghurt (preferably out-of-date) directly into the fosse. We used to keep a pack of 4 cheap natural yoghurts in a cupboard all the time.
We had a septic tank in the UK many years ago, the inlet piping to which was blocked due to all four of us using tissue handkerchieves for a short period when we ran out of toilet paper. They were those which were advertised as having "wet strength".
Fortunately there were manholes providing access for rods on each side of the blockage as no amount of water would have moved the practically solid lump they made, in a pipe which probably had too little Run.
kitchen sink was gurgling, so I thought 8 years of neglect on the fat trap might need to be rectified. 12 buckets of smelly fat blocks later, it can now go another 5 years before I look there again (I hope). the only drain into this fat trap is the kitchen sink and dishwasher. How much fat did we actually eat? if this was the dregs from the dishes. Hate to think of how it would be without the fat trap.
Still giving me hassle, just cant understand the blockage and why it wont shift, only 2 things ever passed through that toilet, flush after flush after flush still backs up within seconds then gurgles away, I need someone to work out the capacity of a 4 " pipe, and how much water by volume in the cistern, might give me an insight as to where the blockage is.
So taking that in to account, when the bowl is nigh on empty a flush goes down but quickly backs up, I suspect as there is a 90 degree bend after a metre, that is where the problem is. We now need a new toilet as the snake thing I got from Amazon has seriously damaged the bowl so take away the toilet and have a look along the pipe next job.
I applaud your "hands on" approach to the problem but as a last resort you might have to contact one of the fosse companies. They can feed an endoscope camera down the line to discover the location of the problem. Not always an expensive procedure. On one occasion we had our regular fosse emptying and I said we have an old fosse connected to an outside toilet but had so far been unable to locate the fosse. The technician took a small box out of the lorry and using one of these gadgets located the fosse in minutes. No charge.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.
Ordered a cheap endoscope from amazon making sure free delivery and return, OH reckons the cleaner dropped something down there. Failing that I might need a Hotrodder!!
Ooh, that's what I need to see what the blockage is in our spring water canalisation. Though I'd need it to be about 40metres long!
When we had draining problems with the flushing etc system, the fosse emptying guy said there had been a blockage of loo paper. We'd stupidly been using "One sheet" but hadn't told guests that you only need to use one sheet. I think that may have been the problem ....we're now back to using something more suitable for fosses.

That seems to be the same problem which I mentioned above. Using tissues not suitable for the toilet.
