Are there certain types of toilet tissue that are not suitable for a fosse ? I mean beyond the obvious, cleansing wipes, feminine products, etc. which are not really toilet tissue.

It's the thickness that's the main problem. We only started using 3-ply again when we moved to Oradour and had mains drainage for the first time in 30 years. Fosses need cosseting. A déboucheur might work, but follow the instructions.

Yes, definitely the thick stuff is not liked by fosses. Especially if you have people who like to use more than their fair share! We knew a family who brought Andrex paper from the UK. It totally f*cked their fosse!

Okay, so we regularly use 3 ply TT paper. I guess we will need to switch to 2 ply. My fear is, as has been stated, 'some folks' will just use double the amount, so not sure how that will work ..

Well yoghurt down a fosse has been suggested already - but I will leave you to look up Greek toilet practices in your favourite search engine.

We have a bidet and I happen to love it. However, everyone else who lives or visits the house cannot be made to use it. :(

A more serious solution might be a Saniflow type toilet with a macerator for those with low flow / blockage issues - esp if Hugh is talking of replacing the toilet anyhow?

We have one of those downstairs, fed by the spring water supply, and there wasn't room to put normal sized drain pipes. Works great, but you still wouldn't be able to use anything like wet wipes, or even the so-called flushable baby bottom wipes.
