How often do you clean your woodie's glass?

This is ours after almost a full season. It gets a quick wipe over with a bit of kitchen roll before lighting with same bit of paper dipped in petrol. Never gets a real clean until annual chimney sweep but only used for 6-7 hours per evening.

Every morning. It is usually so black its hard to tell if there's a fire in it.

Me .. almost on a par with LAF but using a damp piece of kitchen roll
the results are excellent.
Occasionally if there is some discolour then I will use some of the ash to clean it off, then just a wipe over.
If my OH gets there before me he sprays smthg dreadfully potent on the glass and then uses lots and lots of kitchen roll to wipe it off.
He swears his efforts result in a huge improvement .. me I can't see the difference.
But there you go

Paper wet and dipped into the wood ash. Wipe with dry paper. Best and cheapest solution.

Every other day. Biochin trigger gun spray then wipe with rolled up newspaper. Two mins. and brilliant job.

Wet paper even with ash won't touch it. Gotta be the strongest cleaner liquid we can find. It's like its been sprayed with black paint.

Something wrong with your woodie or the way it's operated.
Does it get 'dirty' very quickly soon after the fire is lit or what?

Since I got my Jøtul hardly ever. It burns very cleanly and once it’s burning hot the glass actually seems to clean itself.

It sounds to me that you are burning resinous wood or a mix containing pine and such. Not good for the chimney as I am sure you are aware. Check how the burner is getting combustion air and clean out the ash pan space thoroughly. The wood ash cleaner usually works 100% even with tar. The glass surface might be eroded and need renewing, my stove glass was broken and I had one made (standard 4mm thick) by a company that also makes mirrors. Not expensive, so don't go for manufacturers spares
the results are excellent.
