Pellet stoves

Considering buying a pellet stove to replace wood burner stove. Would prefer one that looks like a traditional wood burning stove and would welcome any recommendations. Also - how noisy are they? Thank you.

Be careful though, because even if this method of heating seems attractive, it does have its constraints: breakdowns, maintenance, spare parts, recharging, dependency on electricity, noise level, pellet price not always predictable.

Easy transport of pellet bags, easier than 40 cm firewood? With 15 kg bags life is not always easier than before.

I have a pellet stove installation scheduled for Tuesday next week and will try to give impressions and updates as I get used to it.

After the price of pellets more than doubled, in 2022, to almost €10 per bag, we found it more economical to use our old air/air reversible aircon units as much as possible, only using the stove when the temperature became too low for them to function adequately, about 6°C.
In this way, and by wearing warmer clothing, we had a fairly comfortable winter.
In 2023 I installed two new, inverter controlled, 12,000 BTU/Hr air/air heat pumps with a COP of 4.0 in heating mode at -10°C.
Since then the house has a steady winter temperature of 21°C, and I have only run the pellet stove to check that it is still working.
We have 8 bags of pellets left from previous purchases, as a reserve.
Our electricity consumption from 24/11/23 to 29/11/24 was 6480 units compared to 7242 in 2021.

plus 1 for the air/air heat pumps.
We have 3 similar sized inverter units which function very well in all temperatures & are economic to run.
Still use the woodie in the evening mind you 'cos Mme likes to warm her derriere with it

Just had the pellet stove installed and started running it.
First thoughts: the installation team were superb, it looks really good in the setting and by Bobo it doesn’t half chuck out some heat. Even managed to get the 47 pellet bags into the study as planned with space left over. So next time will be sixty bags. The hand held control is quite complex at first glance but a little electronic common sense has prevailed. But, I could not have installed it myself.
