I'd have said that the rot set in with the advent of the 'sans permis' vehicles and the possibility of 'buying back' lost points

Our son applied to a local Driving School, at the end of August, for a course of lessons. We're STILL waiting for the go-ahead from ANTS for him to start - and actually be legally allowed to get behind the wheel of an Instructor's car.

Oh the joys of trying to do things properly and play the rules!

Exactly - after all, you could have been very naughty and gone instead to somewhere like https://permisdeconduireenregistre.com/ instead of ANTS for your French licence - and I think there are other alternatives too - even UK and Swiss.

Once upon a time, such people were also offering HGV licences - I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
