DIY: try to remove it without pressing it down too much? And see what happens?

As an owner of several Renault’s in the past and having to spend a fortune when they fall apart after 5 years.

@ DaveW, that's why Mr Made in France (Arnaud Montebourg) didn't like Hyundai. Too reliable, that's concurrence déloyale....

Every marinière Bretonne made in France? I don't think so.

I can understand your reasoning but ..
My Clio is 23 years old in a couple of weeks time .. she's been super and still is but, at the moment, she has a problem. But once I find the right solution she will, once again, be racing away on her 16 valves.

To be honest I must admit that this workshop manual has served me well in the past. I still have these special valve adjustment wrenches in my toolbox, can't say goodbye to them. Excellent cars, but not maintenance free. Very high in the Pyrenees on our way from Toulouse to Andorra, beautiful mountain scenery, the vacuum brake booster suddenly stopped helping me, down to Andorra la Vella in 2nd gear, a line of cars behind us. I was surprised and disappointed: not possible, it let me down! Mercedes, how could you do this to me, here, and not where the roads are plat comme une crêpe ou galette Bretonne!

I was for a bit .. then the problem returned with a vengeance. Clio at present in the Garage again .. different problem, according to them .. not so, according to me. Awaiting her 2nd repair to see if the problem is finally solved.
For the future I'm intent on finding a good mobile mechanic .. they exist, but we live in an area a bit awkward to reach.
