I do wish they'd explain things better.

I suppose it's to legally clarify that someone made a mistake somewhere down the line and legally rectify it so that your good name is not sullied unnecessarily.
It says 'if' points have been have been taken away then they will be added back .. but I don't believe that's the case here ?

Does anyone know whether well get the €135 back - or is that an administration fee for having the audacity to tell them they've cocked up.

Sometimes helpdesks are not able to explain what the computer has to say to the dear client. Lack of common sense, problem with perceiving the absurd reality hiding under under a lot zero's? Talking to brick walls.....
Still a nice example how things can derail, a simple telecom bill: " Bouygues Telecom demanded the modest sum of 11.7 million billion euros. That's more than 5,872 times France's GDP in 2011.............. Another simply told her that she would be contacted to "arrange payment in instalments". What remains to be determined is the number of instalments and the repayment period for such an amount."

@ Char, in the end you'll get it back. Writing is better than only a phone call. See here: Comment contester une amende. Internet is easier than la voie postale.

It is one of the motifs valables: Une erreur sur le numéro d'immatriculation. Although almost everyone thinks that a photo never lies, the system is always right etc. Your case is rather exceptionnel. A database read-out error, software is to blame, OCR error, the quality of the picture or the visibility of the license plate. Software without bugs? Keep dreaming.....

It says your dossier has been passed to X and it will be up to X to decide what to do and you will be kept informed.
If points are deducted a request has been made to another department to reinstate them.
The tenses have been mixed, but it seems clearish !

Thanks curtis, I can read it - I just don't understand why they can't issue a fine to the correct person, refund our money etc. they've arranged for any points to be returned so I don't know why is it going in front of a Tribunal.

The SYSTEM can never admit to being wrong because that would weaken it so it has to be passed to a complex and distant process to get sorted.
Several years ago someone kept getting mysterious fines when they had been nowhere near the area they were levied in; eventually after much toing and froing and investigation it was proved that the flying Douanes had unmarked vehicles equipped with number plates they had chosen at random with no reference to plates in use. It took months and months to sort out.
One of the nastier aspects of the present system, as Char had found out is that you have to pay the fine, effectively pleading guilty before you can appeal. The system said that as you have paid the fine you were guilty anyway so appeals were always rejected. This was supposed to have been changed but the resistance of the French blob is even greater than the British!

That's what I was saying about the the tenses. The Tribunal will decide what is to happen when they have looked at your dossier.
But it suggests that the Fichier National have already been informed to reinstate your points if it is decided.
