' The government wanted to increase the ecological penalty on almost all petrol and diesel vehicles from 1 January 2025. This measure was rejected by 128 votes, mainly from the RN, Ciottists, LR, Socialists and Communists.
It was one of the most controversial measures in the budget presented by the government. On Saturday October 26th the Assemblée nationale rejected the government's plan to increase the ecological penalty on almost all petrol and diesel vehicles from 1 January 2025.'

A strong opinion is one thing, what the government is going to decide another thing.
If the situation gets bogged down, the Government could very well resort to the notorious Article 49-3 to force the issue. But it would then be exposed to a motion of censure, the outcome of which would be highly uncertain in the absence of a clear majority.
