Does anyone know how bad the construction on the A61 by Narbonne impacts the traffic? Is it on both sides of the autoroute? All days of the week?
We would need to take that route to visit Brive-la-Gaillard. Trying to figure out a plan.
Can't take the A75 as I could not drive or be in a car on the Millau Viaduct. Absolute fear of high bridges - and even some low bridges. Would have to be drugged - and have no drugs.
Best I can suggest is that you ask viamichelin.com for a route shortly (hours at most) before setting off. If traffic is bad it will find an alternative route or routes. It will often suggest multiple routes anyway and give a best estimate on the time taken based on the then current traffic conditions.
Edit to add: I just looked for Orange to Brive and it offered 3 routes - via Millau, via Toulouse and via St.Etienne and Clermont Ferrand - just 30 minutes time difference between the fastest and slowest.
If you don’t want to go across the bridge simply leave the autoroute at the junction just before it, drive through Millau and rejoin the autoroute. That way you get the added extra of getting a great view of the engineering masterpiece.

Thanks, we will definitely check viamichelin prior to departing. We have chosen the Toulouse route as we wanted to see the area anyway - even if it is just passing through. We might stop midpoint to have a look around.

I did consider that. We'll have a look to see where we could exit and re-enter to avoid the bridge.
