Trucks on the autoroute on Sundays

#1 Post by Lori »

I thought it was interdite for trucks over 7.5 tons to drive on the autoroute on Sundays, with the exception of certain types of merchandise. I looked it up and saw that Saturdays, from morning to evening, seem to also be interdite in a number of regions.

Can anyone clarify? I am planning our travel to Brive on a Sunday as I was hoping to avoid a bunch of tractor trailer trucks.

Thanks !

Should be only lorries carrying perishable goods or urgent, over weekends but with so many on major roads/autoroutes these days no one takes any notice, me thinks.

I've travelled the length of France on various days of the week and never felt inconvenienced by having to share the autoroutes with HGVs. Perhaps they would be a pain on the lesser routes but then I wouldn't chose those for longer trips anyway.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

David is no longer here to defend the truckers, but when one has his limiter set to 90.01 and he wants to overtake another with a limiter set to 89.99, then PITA on two-lane autoroutes is applicable!

I know they are providing us all services and I am grateful for that. I'd just like to choose a day to travel when there 'might' be fewer of them on the road.

@Doug is basically correct but as ever the rules are a bit more complicated in the detail.

Sundays is basically forbidden except for perishable goods. A truck within 150km of its pick up point for perishable goods is allowed to travel to that pick up point. Similarly trucks associated with tourist attractions and the like are permitted.

Saturdays from 16th July to 20th August (dates will change each year) only perishable goods between 07:00 and 19:00.

In addition there are specific restrictions for Ile de France from Friday evenings to Sunday during the summer holiday period and Rhone-Alpes during the peak ski period.

The rules are redefined every year so that the exact Saturdays are defined.

I haven’t seen him posting for a while and looked on board members, seems he is - gone.

Whatever the details of the rules you will find the roads noticeably quieter at the weekends particularly on Sundays. The A20 should be fairly quiet next weekend, especially when compared to the last couple of weekends as the school terms will have started.
