Has anyone ever used one of the companies online who offer to buy your car for cash, here in France.

If anything like We buy any Car, in the UK, they offer a really low price, then you normally have to take it somewhere so as they can actually see it, that in itself could be a long way in France.

@Mangetout I think you'll find the second-hand car market is in your favour, particularly if you could sell privately. With prices/cost of living rocketing, second hand cars are in demand. You could even find that a garage would be interested (obviously it would depend on the age and condition of the car) particularly if you went to a garage selling your make of car. When we bought our VW, the VW garage said they were desperate for second-hand cars and that was about 5 years ago. I think it should be less risky and you're unlikely to be any worse off than going through some online dealer.

It's worth checking the value of your car through the publication Argus - it's the guide that most people use here.
We advertised our 2 cars through Le Bon Coin (18 and 16 years old !), had several replies and got the price we asked for.

+1. The last news report I saw on the subject said that some 2nd hand cars were fetching more than a new car of the same make/model. As Blaze says, check the Argus price for year and kilometrage.

I know we bought our daughter's car - a 2011 Toyota Auris - at a bargain price (and it had a low kilometrage), from some Brits leaving France, but it has more than doubled in value since we bought it two years ago!

If you can bear to sell it privately - Le Bon Coin/La Centrale will get you much more than the "WeBuyAnyCar" French equivalent.

We will be hanging on to our 21-year old vehicles until we are no longer fit to drive. Replacements are too expensive. I do all the repairs but the only thing beyond my skill set is rust repair underneath if the CT man gets too fussy. When that happens I'm stuffed because I have no means of lifting the car high enough and my welding skills are crap. I venture to guess that garages here don't do welding repair, or if they do it will cost hundreds.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

I don’t know about garages but my neighbour I’d an agricultural engineer. He’s got some impressive welding gear and seems pretty handy at putting it to work.

That's not the case. I've had two companies offer to buy the car just on the strength of pictures and they will pick it up. I just wondered if anyone had used a similar service.

Be very careful indeed. Who are these two companies? Have they made a firm offer?
Is it a nearly new car? What model?
If they did come to pick it up, how would they pay? Only a cleared virement would suffice.( for me)
