Poxy Car now

I finally managed to get a quote from a local garage, @ €975, so was fully prepared to go down and accept that this morning, but then spotted "immobilisation du vehicle trois semaines", which to me means a three week wait. I have trolled the normal parts suppliers here in France and they all seem to be out of stock,[not surprised really], can't though seem to find anyone offering a recon service, whereas in the UK they seem to be half a dozen specialists saying they turn it around in 48 hrs, not a problem to receive from and send back to France, one wonders what the customs brigade will have to say about that, and I can foresee the garage refusing to proceed on that basis. They have put on the devis Reparation bloc ABS @€780, which supposedly tells me that someone, somewhere will be repairing it rather than a straightforward exchange, don't know what we are going to do now if we have to hire a car for 3 weeks , hospital apps etc. by the time we have paid for that as well, might just go to the Ford Garage as they might well have stock. What a bloody nightmare.

Very kind of you to look but this garagiste is French and I doubt he will want to entertain an English company, plus they won't fit anything that they have not been involved in either sourcing or repairing.

But likely to have the same potential flaw?

Speaking of poxy cars and courtesy cars, a few years ago we were given a "courtesy" car while our Subaru was in the local garage after someone t-boned me. The lent car was a manky old Fiat Multipla which OH refused to drive, and the children didn't want to be seen in going to school! I became quite fond of it - it was Sooooo uncool, it was cool. Had a middle seat in the front, just for my handbag! The ventilation controls looked like something out of Dr Who, and everything was sticky as it had been left in the sun for far too long, or chewed by Mrs Garagist's dog.

I keep joking with the family that I'd get one, because I really wouldn't care if it got dinged, and denting it would actually improve it! Apologies to anyone who has one! 8-)

One of my UK golfing mates had one.
He occasionally used it to transport 4 of us plus gear to away competitions so 3 in front & 1plus gear in back & boot space.
I loved being one of the 3 in front. Sort of weird seating arrangement but no real difference to most Transit type vans.
One of those cars that was so strange it was cool.

The worst courtesy car I ever had was a Smart Car. I hated it. I expected it to be fun, it wasn’t. The best was up at the other end of the scale, a brand new Porsche 911 Carrera S. I only had it from 8:00 to 18:00 and I was at work for most of the time in between so didn’t get to drive it much.
