They've been using Alpines for many years just updating to the latest model. Not the run of the mill (what's French for that?) but for specialised units.

Holy Cow! Have you seen the price? Basic price with no options is 59.5 thousand euros. Add a handful of mostly cosmetic options and you're looking at the price of a well restored E-type or any number of Ferrari models.

@ Hotrodder, is there, somewhere in the ' Handbook Gendarmerie à la Française ', a dedicated chapter about the art of SU carb maintenance?

What a crime to cover them in red and yellow chevrons

I dunno. I was once instructed how to adjust a set of two, or three, SU carbs using a piece of fuel pipe as a stethoscope and very few tools.

I had a Twin Cam MGA, just two SUs.
Easy to tune with a tuning kit.
1) Assured exact centricity of needle in jet.
2) Simplified synchronisation by equalising dashpot lift.
3) Final tweak to make carb next to flywheel to open a slight twinge before front carb.

On my V8 Mazda it had twin SUs, so did my 1430cc mini, re build and tuned the carbs using "Dave Vizards" book, used "Gunsen" balancing gauges, also visual mixture tester, biggest job was tuning the carbs on my friends Maserati Merak, six twin choke Webers.
