Consider this another rant about typical French total disregard for a customer.
During this rainy spell I am hard pushed to accomplish anything useful so thought I would finish a project started over a year ago. Kitchen. It is now reasonably modern, functional, and much easier to keep clean. I wanted to finish it off by sorting out the space between the cooker and the fan hood above. A painted finish just doesn't make the grade so when I spotted a purpose made stainless steel panel in a BricoCash catalogue I deemed it a good enough reason to trek to far off Lannion in search of the last piece of the kitchen renovation. Last night I made notes of the route to be taken from Google Maps (because both of our GPS units were chucked ages ago when they became useless due to no available updates) and carefully planned so to avoid the threatened chaos at the motorway junction at Guingamp. Got to Lannion OK but only to find the whole town riddled with roadworks and forced diversions that made it impossible to follow my notes. Half an hour to get across town and out the other side to a commercial estate that wasn't signposted at all but found the brico eventually. Went in, searched the kichen section thoroughly and then all the rest of the shop aisle by aisle when mrs.H spots a member of staff, impersonating a lamp post deep in thoughts clearly unrelated to assisting customers. Standing to block his vacant gaze into the distance I woke him from his dreams with a bonjour and a smile. Can you help? Handing him the page torn from the catalogue with the item circled thereon. I followed him around while he looked everywhere I had previously done only to say, sorry-I can't find it. OK says I and headed for the Customer "Service" desk to ask. Bod was immersed in pulling dozens of items out of a shopping bag, ticking off the item on a till slip and placing them aside. He looked up only long enough to be aware I was waiting. I waited silently hoping to not make him lose count or whatever so when he did finish I handed him the catalogue page, etc. His response was to ask a member of staff to look for it. I said I have already done that and pointed to that member who was ambling by at the time. I was about to ask if I could order it but he said something I didn't catch but it came across as dismissive and he turned and walked away. I then said I have come a long way for nothing then and screwed up the catalogue page and tossed it on his desk, to which he said I should put it in the poubelle provided. My reply was very rude indeed and I headed for the exit before I felt compelled to offer him a knuckle sandwich.
You have been warned. BricoCash at Lannion.

On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.
