No @niemeyjt commercial energy is not capped. Sometimes you can get a forward deal fixed for 1 or 2 years.

Cat food is the item that I see the biggest rises in prices over the last 2-3 years. I buy one make and one brand from that make and I always look at the price per kilo. Over that time the cost of a carton has remained relatively stable until this summer when it jumped up. However it was notable that a carton used to contain 48 sachets, then 44 and now 40. Additionally the sachet weight has dropped from 100g down to 85g. To put all of that into context in November 19 I paid (on a special deal I admit) €2,67/kg. The best price today (literally) is €4,25/kg.

But yes, everything else seems to be going up in price as well.

I find the price of bird seed, fat balls, wet and dry cat food has generally gone up by 30%. That's a lot.

It's made the supermarket trips something of a joke chez nous. 'How much????' 'They've got to be kidding!' and 'OK, OK..Macron wins, we'll be living on lentils and chick peas soon' are the printable exclamations I could accept the prices rises...there's a lot we just don't buy, now, but I do object to the sharp practices perpetrated by supers to try to disguise the hikes. The saddest thing is that with a little help from OH, we could be self-sufficient in fruit, veg, eggs and poultry. That help is not forthcoming....

The birds here seem incredibly hungry and they're getting through around 15 grease balls per day. They are getting hard to come by and I bought the last two tubs of 30 at Intemarche today - where amazingly, they were discounted by around 30%.

Last time I was in Lidl, OH was picking up a bag of frozen beef mince. I couldn't believe my eyes when I noticed the price. Just under €10 ! What the hell do people pay for a decent steak these days?

I recall mince getting to be a luxury for me back in the 80's because I was long-term unemployed. I used to dilute the mince with soya mince to make it go further. I suspect soya mince is now too expensive. I suspect shredded cardboard would taste similar.

Inflation is 5% plus, and will go higher.

On the positive side I got some Dijon mustard today.

We've noticed things creeping up, a few centimes every week. We also noticed a while ago that Weetabix packets have cut down by a third (2 packets of 10 instead of 3) though we didn't check the price difference (if there is any ...).
Prior to Ukraine, Covid was an excuse given for shortages, prices rising .....

We also noticed the price of sucrine lettuce go up : it used to be 99c for 3 now it's 99c for 2 (we don't buy them, it's just an observation). Our own are nearly ready.

Obviously packed for the French market. UK Weetabix comes in 2 x 12 or 4 x 12 packs. I changed to Tesco's version years ago as it is considerably cheaper but now buy Aldi or Lidl versions which are cheaper still. The composition is identical but there is a slight difference in taste.

We've had problems finding Weetabix here in France over the last few weeks (not sure if they're pkts of 10 or 12). Thanks for the steer about Aldi or Lidl - we'll give them a go. I've just compared ingredients and nutritional info and they're pretty similar. And I see Aldi does a version of Shredded Wheat - even better, with no sugar or salt !

As regards reducing quantity but charging the same price, there is discussion at the highest levels about banning the practice; not sure how it can be done though.
