A German owned supermarket near by has covered a fair bit of their parking area with solar panels, they get free energy customer's get undercover shaded parking, on Friday went to Limoges and the large Decathlon store has just done the same, also a few miles away two fields have been covered in them, is it just around this area? or is there a nationwide build programme.

The supers round here have had them for some time, Casino being the first. It makes a lot of sense. The push to get particuliers to install them is relentless, the latest idea being pergolas and car ports bearing panels. Just a thought, but would there come a point where absorbing the sun's heat on a massive scale has an effect on climate change?

SuperU in Excideuil (24) have just done it too. Makes sense all round!

Good point, Quiksilver, but concrete and tarmac have been doing that for years. Councils could well think again about the concreted/paving stoned area though of course this could bring up maintenance issues ...

Good point, Quiksilver, but concrete and tarmac have been doing that for years. Councils could well thing again about the concreted/paving stoned area though of course this could bring up maintenance issues ...

Fully agree and before the tarmac it was just the ground - as in earth, dirt or whatever you will call it.

I like the idea of each place having a display of the output. Also while they are at it cant they think about collecting all the rainwater What happens to the panels when we have our infamous hail storms

The push to get particuliers to install them is going nowhere unless they get a whole lot cheaper, and that's not going to happen anytime soon. I'd like a grant to get a fosse installed or an interest free loan to get a new roof but hey ho.

Whatever the surface, the sun's heat was absorbed and then re-released. If the sun's heat is absorbed but converted to electricity is it too simplistic to think that there would be an overall cooling effect, at least during the summer months?

If you do a tax declaration you should be eligible for grants, HR. They've just changed the law so you can apply for more than one form of help. E.g. Grant + interest-free loan. If you need a hand to find out what's available, PM me.
