Splitting off the mower thread…
How important is choosing a colour for a new acquisition of a machine
For example, would you choose black kitchen machines?
Do you choose favorite colours or go for following trends such as established on front doors in your street? assuming no objections by jobsworths.
Would you skip a long delivery time and take a showroom car at any colour?

Our kitchen had black appliances when they were bought as a 'job lot' from the local kitchen supplier who drew up the plans & supplied the complete kitchen almost 20 years ago.
I don't remember thinking "ugh, black" when I fitted the kitchen but do remember putting our non matching existing white micro wave & kettle on the worktop & thinking our white existing dishwasher will also be on show.
Didn't bother me then & over the years as things have died & been replaced it bothers me less & we now have a 'charming' array of mis-coloured appiances.
The only thing I wouldn't have is a red car. Back in the day I had three red company Cortinas in as many years when all suffered hit & run damage when parked &, if you believe in such things, were deffo unlucky cars.

We've never been able to choose the colour of our car and with the wonderful choice of black or varying shades of brown and grey, it's not worth worrying about it.

Appliances...didn't matter much in UK although I remember spraying the gifted microwave silver for some reason. Here in France, as everything was done from scratch, and it was myfirst, proper house, stuff was co-ordinated. My current car is only the second I've ever chosen (the first, an Alfa was a right turkey but I didn't choose it for it's colour). We did a 1000km round trip in a day to look at 5 206ccs and as they were all silver anyway no choice (of colour) required :D
I've never liked the TV that OH got here. It's big, black and plasticky but 'fashion' dictated that the more classy silver ones were no longer available by the time we were furnishing the house.
Phone, 'puter etc it's the spec that counts, not the colour.
Where it becomes a bit fanatical is when planning the garden, though. The main joy of that used to be planning contrasts, painting pictures with plants. There's no point doing that if someone's going to be bombing round it on aforementioned cheese-spread (I'm being polite, here) colour ride-on. I'm not struck on the alternate years when we're surrounded by sunflowers, either

Colour today? A marketing gimmick. A kitchen full of black appliances? It will show every tiny spec of dust and fingerprint, and in many old French houses that have a few small windows black just sucks up and swallows any light that dares to enter.
Lots of data about how colour affects mood in humans. Will we one day see toys for young children in grey or black? Use it or lose it.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

The same could be said of white kitchens showing dirt and grime.
The worst however is polished steel. Just touch a handle and your fingerprints are obvious and difficult to remove, often leaving a smear of cleaning product.

Don't use cleaning products on stainless steel.....or at least if you do, wipe them over afterwards with a soft cloth and a drop or two of baby oil

I’ve seen a lot of car drivers insensitive to colour going through traffic lights.

Then there are those who can't see double yellow lines (UK) or blue hatching (France) :D

As we have a new house with a modern kitchen, all our white goods are "black" and matching, the utility room has matching "Black" washer and dryer. As for car choice, been able to pick our own colours so White/ Red/ Grey/ and White, next year a new colour, green or blue, or a Bronze.
