I worked as a temp a branch of an American bank in London and we had the most amazing customers. Cassius Clay, as he was then, was absolutely stunning .... and terribly nice !

May I ask what the doctor treated you with ? A steroid perhaps ? Did it stay that swollen for a long time ?

And, true, I haven't heard that name since childhood.

I put 3 wasp traps out yesterday and see they have already caught some hornets - sadly European hornets as I actually wanted the Asian ones. There are a fair number about at the moment, possibly due to the warm weather we're having. It may well be there's a nest somewhere nearby but it could be up to 2kms away ...

We've got an anglers landing net which we use to catch any hornets looking to take up residence around our house. The large soffit overhang of our kitchen seems their favourite.
Catch 'em, put the net down to check which type it is. The goodun's we let go, the nasties get squished.

The traps have caught an amazing number of hornets and I'm happy to say that some of them are Asians. I've never put traps out at this time of year and I will most certainly put them out in the spring. Our Border Collie loves to chase things that fly ....
I gather that the Asian queens love honey ...

I've just emptied on of the traps, it was toppers, and plenty of Asians. I put it back out about an hour ago with a spoonful of honey, 2 large sugar lumps and a small spoonful of apricot jam dissolved in warm water. Bingo, 3 Asians in there already !

Asian hornets die off in the winter, only the queens survive so I can only hope I might have caught a queen or two already. Apparently only fertilised queens survive to start a new colony in the spring. It is recommended to put traps out in late autumn and spring to catch the queens - I had actually hesitated about putting traps out now, but having seen a fair number of the little buggers in the garden, it's turned out to be a very good move.

Very high in a tree. Creepy discovery in Ulm (Baden-Württemberg)! An Asian hornet nest has been found there for the first time. The insect nest looks like a grimace, is unusually large at 80 centimetres and is home to up to 4,000 voracious hornets. This poses a threat not only to native bees, but also to the pupils of the neighbouring Pestalozzi School! As long as the windows are closed, no problems.....

I use this sort of trap and having emptied the 3 that I have, they are now full again. There are plenty of Asians in there and they seem to keep on coming. If they are workers, they would die off anyway so I'm hoping to have caught some queens.
Yes, I'm sure you can make something similar, but I've had these ones for about 20 years, and they've more than made their money's worth !
