I well know that i've given up on forums, but I must post that for the first time in a couple of years today thousands and thousands of grues have flown over , still are as I post, in our old age its brought tears to our eyes.
That on top of dozens of cattle egrets in the garden this afternoon

They must have changed their flight paths, none over here.
Lots of egrets all winter though.
How do people live without at least one dog in the house?

I think they may have regretted flying over this way last night. First time I've woken in the night feeling like I'm in a freezer - despite all the blankets. That's a blimin' hard frost out there - defying what the forecast said!

Whilst we've had strong NE winds blowing this week incredibly the grues are still flying directly against it in their determination to migrate to their summer houses. We have a heavy frost this morning too and a uniformly light grey sky has replaced yesterday's cloudless one.

We've had them going over for weeks in generally small groups, but yesterday's bunch was huge and raucous!
