France in Focus

Looked out through the early morning rain and had a surprise.
A pair of mallards on the lower lawn, well at the moment it's more like a lake after all of the rain, so can see why they were confused.
No photo as too open to get near, but a beautifully coloured male.

Not on a lawn, a real lake, le lac du Bois de Boulogne, Paris.

We've got 4 col-verts on the farm reservoir this year. Only ever seen two before, and they never seemed particularly successful nesting or breeding. There was also a cormorant a few days ago. Never seen anything like the way it was hoovering up the big carp

They're here all year round, in the deep ditches, on the various lakes, along the beach .... I'm looking forward to seeing the families !
